War has come to Xereus XI.
Amid the devastation of the Age of Darkness, a Mechanicum expedition operating on the remote world reported a discovery of extraordinary significance. Deep beneath the surface, the expedition uncovered an unknown compound unlike anything recorded within their archives.
The substance was immediately placed within specialized containment vessels, and a cadre of Tech-Priests was charged with its study and safekeeping. Access to the discovery was restricted, research records were sealed, and all further investigation was ordered to proceed under the strictest security.
Initial reports indicated that containment had been successful.
Then the transmissions stopped.
For seven days, no communication has been received from the expedition.
Repeated hails have gone unanswered. Automated systems continue to transmit fragments of corrupted data. Reconnaissance reports are contradictory. Some indicate that the Mechanicum attempted to evacuate portions of the facility. Others suggest that the expedition never left.
More troubling still, scattered transmissions bearing valid authorization have begun issuing conflicting orders to forces entering the system.
What began as a recovery operation has rapidly become something far more dangerous.
Across Xereus XI, Legiones Astartes and their allies converge upon abandoned research stations, shattered Mechanicum convoys, silent communication arrays, subterranean vaults, and containment sites whose purpose remains unknown. Each force has received its orders.
